A strong sustainability strategy should never be risk-free.

In fact, if it is, it's probably not going to achieve much at all.

To drive real impact, sustainability leaders must adopt a portfolio mindset that spans different levels of risk:

Safe and achievable projects: These are the foundation. They deliver reliable, incremental progress and build internal credibility.

Challenging but strategic projects: These stretch the organisation and have the potential to significantly move the needle. They may fail, but they also inspire innovation and transformation.

Bold, high-risk initiatives: These venture into the unknown. Experimental, disruptive, and visionary. They may not succeed, but when they do, they can redefine what’s possible.

Playing it safe may protect short-term reputations, but it won't deliver the kind of change the world urgently needs. In sustainability, not taking risk is the greatest risk.

Let’s build strategies that are not just responsible, but ambitious.
