Comparative analysis of green hydrogen production in south east asia

Green Hydrogen Production in Southeast Asia

The Southeast Asian region is rapidly advancing in green hydrogen production, marking a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions. Here are some key developments and figures:

Malaysia:

Proton Ventures & Sarawak Energy: Malaysia is spearheading green hydrogen production with the establishment of Southeast Asia's first integrated hydrogen production plant and refueling station in Sarawak. The facility has a production capacity of 130 kg/day of hydrogen, aiming to scale up to 1000 kg/day by 2025

Singapore:

Keppel Corporation & Mitsubishi Heavy Industries: Singapore is focusing on developing a comprehensive hydrogen supply chain. The city-state is investing SGD 370 million in green hydrogen projects, aiming to achieve 1GW of green hydrogen capacity by 2030

 Thailand:

PTT & Toyota Tsusho: Thailand is set to become a regional hub for hydrogen production with PTT's USD 7 billion investment in green hydrogen infrastructure. By 2030, Thailand targets producing 2.5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually

 Indonesia:

Pertamina: Indonesia is integrating green hydrogen into its national energy strategy. Pertamina is developing a hydrogen production plant with an initial capacity of 500 MW, aiming to expand to 2 GW by 2035. The government has allocated USD 1.2 billion for green hydrogen initiatives over the next five years

Vietnam:

EVN & Siemens: Vietnam is exploring green hydrogen to complement its extensive renewable energy resources. The pilot projects underway aim to produce 50,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year by 2030, with investments totaling USD 3 billion

Philippines:

First Gen & Tokyo Gas: The Philippines is embracing green hydrogen as a key component of its clean energy transition. A recent partnership aims to produce 200 MW of green hydrogen by 2027, with a projected investment of USD 1 billion .

These initiatives highlight Southeast Asia's commitment to green hydrogen as a sustainable energy source, leveraging its abundant renewable resources. This transition not only supports regional decarbonization efforts but also positions Southeast Asia as a pivotal player in the global hydrogen economy.
