Reimagining leadership series: Values as the North Star in Shaping Agendas

In an era of rapid change and complex challenges, sustainability leaders must anchor their strategies in a clear set of values. These values not only guide decision-making but also build trust with stakeholders, drive long-term impact, and foster resilience in the face of uncertainty

Why Values Matter:

A study by Deloitte revealed that 73% of employees who work at purpose-driven companies feel engaged, compared to only 23% at non-purpose-driven companies . This engagement is critical for driving innovation and commitment in sustainability initiatives.

 Impact on Sustainability:

Values-driven leadership leads to more effective sustainability outcomes. Research from Harvard Business Review found that companies with a strong ethical foundation are 2.5 times more likely to outperform their peers in terms of sustainability goals .

When leaders prioritize integrity, transparency, and social responsibility, they create a culture that supports sustainable practices across the board.

Figures that Speak Volumes:

According to the World Economic Forum, companies that incorporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria into their core values saw a 6% increase in stock price over the last three years, compared to a 3% increase for those that did not. This highlights the financial and reputational benefits of staying true to core values.

We must ask ourselves: What values will guide our decisions? How will we ensure that these values are embedded in every aspect of our agenda? By staying committed to a values-driven approach, we can lead with purpose, inspire our teams, and create lasting change for the planet.
